It probably sounds strange at first - using coughing to help with your singing. First up we'd better clarify that we're not talking about those insane fire breath coughs that actually tear your through apart. Think of the gentlest cough imaginable. Almost non-existent. Now, keep your throat, neck and shoulders relaxed and try one of those super gentle coughs.
If you've done it correctly you should be feeling tension lower in your abdomen, the diagram area. Just a few coughs like this can trigger your brain to engage that area for singing. Add this simple exercise to your warm up vocals to assist developing a natural physical state for singing.
